                                    Frequently Asked Questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

Not usually.  The sterilized, single-use needles are as thin as a human hair and typically do not hurt when placed by a skilled practitioner.  For the most part, patients feel extremely relaxed during the treatment and some even fall asleep.  For our patients who would rather not be treated with needles,  there are other options which can be very effective in treating certain conditions.

How should I prepare for my acupuncture treatment?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing.  Many acupuncture points are located below the knees and elbows, so they are easily accessible.  In the event you need to remove any clothing, an appropriate drape or gown will be provided.  Also, make sure that you have eaten within one hour before your treatment and avoid vigorous exercise for 1-2 hours before and after treatment.

How much time should I allow?

The initial appointment takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours and consists of a comprehensive evaluation and a treatment.  Follow-up visits usually take 35-45 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?

I accept for treatment only those patients I feel confident I can help and it is my goal to help resolve their health issues as quickly as possible.  Following the initial evaluation and your response to the first treatment, I should be able to tell you how many treatments will be necessary to resolve your health issues. Generally speaking, acute conditions are often resolved with only a few treatments.  Chronic conditions and those due to multiple internal imbalances take longer.

Do You take Insurance?

Health insurance policies vary widely regarding what services they cover.  At your request, we will contact your insurance company to determine if our services are covered by your policy.  If they are, we will bill the insurance company for you.  You are still required to pay for your treatment at the time of service and are responsible for any policy deductible.  When we receive payment from your insurance company, we will promptly reimburse you for out-of-pocket expense.

If you have had an accident we will accept your auto insurance PIP coverage or Medpay benefits.  In most of these cases, you wil not incur any out-of-pocket expense.

Medicare does not yet cover acupuncture nor do HMO's.

What is this going to cost me?

For our patients who don't have insurance coverage, we offer a cash discount rate.  The initial evaluation and first treatment is $125, and follow-up visits are $75.

If Chinese herbal formulas are prescribed for you, costs can range from $10 to $20 for a one to two week supply.  We provide these products to our patients at little more than our actual cost.

Why should I choose you as my practitioner?

FamilyAs with any medical provider, not all acupuncture physicians are created equal.  There are differences in levels of training and experience, areas of expertise, quality of communication, and office environment.  When you come to our office, here is what you get:

- A safe, clean professional environment.

- A thorough evaluation by a Florida-licensed, Board Certified Acupuncture Physician with 20 years of experience.

- An explanation of findings, treatment goals and strategy, and techniques to be used.

- Answers to all your questions.
